The Secret to Contentment

Contentment is feeling or showing satisfaction with one’s possessions, status, or situation.

But contentment can be an elusive pursuit.  We go after things we think will make us happy only to find out it didn’t work.  These days contentment is hard to come by.  Many of us are in a continual race, chasing after bigger and better material possessions.  For some, nothing is ever good enough, living under the assumption that when they attain that thing they want, they will be happy.

But happiness doesn’t come from things. True contentment is an inner sense of peace that comes from being right with God and knowing that He is in control of ALL that happens to us. It means looking up with every situation.

Paul’s words in the bible teaches it best.  While sitting in a prison cell with nothing to call his own he knew the secret to being content.

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.”

 Philippians 4:11-12

Let’s strive to know God in the ways Paul did, then we will know contentment.

    The closer we get to know God, the more content we will become.

  2. Great wisdom to share. I was thinking along these lines recently and something I resolved to become more aware of is that ‘not everything is within my control’ and to have the courage to let go and let God.
